Maro Danou

Maria qualified at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2002 and, after six months of practice with a Specialist Endodontist, she came to Canterbury in 2003. She joined St. George’s Dental Practice in 2004 and has been a member of the team ever since. Her main interest in dentistry is the restoration of aesthetically impaired teeth and is content when she can give patients a confident wide smile. She has been continuously updating her skills within the various fields of dentistry including courses in aesthetic restorations and endodontics in UCL Eastman Dental Hospital. She is approachable and understanding, which allows her to tailor her treatment to suit each patient’s individual needs. Her thorough, calm and gentle approach has helped make dental visits, for children and adults, a more relaxing and pleasant experience and her friendly and engaging nature makes even the most nervous patients feel at ease. Maria enjoys being creative and achieving a satisfying, fulfilling and well-balanced life both personally and professionally.

Dr Mirela Barna

Mirela graduated from the University of Medicine/Faculty of Dentistry Iasi, Romania, in 2003. She practiced in Iasi at a private dental clinic until 2008 when she moved to England to fulfill her personal and professional ambitions. Mirela joined our team in 2008 and has been a committed member ever since. In the years after graduation she attended further post graduate courses in most clinical areas of the profession and her primary aim is to offer high quality general dental care to all of her patients. Being trained as a doctor as well as a dentist, Mirela takes pride both in her clinical work and in helping her patients to become active partners in the process of improving their dental and general health status.

Dr Elif Tekin Yildirim GDC Registered Dental Therapist GDC No.: 318993 Elif is a highly experienced dental professional with over a decade of international clinical experience and a strong background in restorative and conservative dentistry. Having worked for many years in public hospital settings overseas, she has developed advanced clinical skills alongside a caring, patient-focused approach. After relocating to the UK, Dr Elif successfully passed Part 1 of the ORE (Overseas Registration Exam) and is currently preparing for the final stage to obtain full registration as a dentist in the UK. While progressing toward this, she has been providing high-quality care to patients as a Dental Therapist since February 2025 and as a Dental Hygienist since June 2025 across multiple practices. Dr Elif joined our NHS practice in February 2025 and is passionate about helping patients achieve and maintain excellent oral health. Her clinical interests include periodontal care, restorative treatments, conservative dentistry, children’s dentistry and overall oral hygiene improvement. She takes pride in offering gentle, reassuring care, clear communication and tailored treatment plans to suit each individual patient. With a commitment to ongoing professional development and high clinical standards, Dr Elif aims to continue supporting NHS patients while also offering more advanced and complex treatments privately once fully registered—ensuring patients can access both accessible care and high-quality specialist treatment when needed. She is dedicated to creating confident, healthy smiles and building long-term relationships with her patients.
